With Dr. Donald Bishop as his dad, Dr. Eric Bishop grew up with an inside look to optometry. He followed those footsteps to Midwestern University’s Arizona College of Optometry. While there, he volunteered as events coordinator for the Campus Lion’s Club where he organized and attended many free vision screenings for the Phoenix area. He travelled with the Lion’s Club to Mexicali and Tijuana to provide free eye exams, ocular health care, and prescription glasses to those in need.
During his education, Dr. Bishop did research that resulted in two posters at American Academy of Optometry meetings and one medical journal publication in “Optometry and Visual Performance.” In his externship he focused on diagnostic imaging and ocular diseases like glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, and macular degeneration. Since joining the clinic in 2014, Dr. Bishop has valued the range of people he gets to meet, as well as the array of conditions he gets to treat. Currently, he fits specialty contact lenses for a variety of conditions like keratoconus, astigmatic presbyopia, and grafted and irregular corneal fits.
Whenever possible, Dr. Bishop travels and takes photos. When he’s not at the clinic Dr. Bishop might be playing guitar and singing in his band, weeding his vegetable garden, or relaxing with his rescue cats. Both Simba and Nala were adopted from the AARCS shelter in Calgary.
Dr. Nguyen received her education at the InterAmerican University of Puerto Rico, where she graduated Magna Cum Laude in 2006. She worked with VOSH International , Lion’s Club, and went on three mission trips to the Dominican Republic to provide humanitarian care. She joined the Dr, Bishop & Associates team in 2013.
Working at a clinic with three locations in Calgary gives Dr. Nguyen a chance to meet patients from all over the city, that range from children to seniors with a myriad of cultures. The technology in the office allows her to give comprehensive care beyond prescribing glasses and contact lenses. She appreciates working with a team that is constantly sharing ideas, treatment planning, and diagnosis consultations because it helps her become a better optometrist every day.
Dr. Nguyen speaks 2.5 languages: English, Vietnamese, and un poco Espanol (a little Spanish). She’s always on the hunt for exotic fruit she hasn’t tried yet or planning her next trip. On the weekend you might find her playing tennis, or reading a great book.
Dr. Bharadia is a member of the Canadian Association of Optometrists, Alberta Association of Optometrists, and the Calgary Society of Optometrists. He went to Optometry school at the InterAmerican University of Puerto Rico. In 2017, he earned his Doctor of Optometry degree and returned to his hometown of Calgary.
While in Puerto Rico, he learned as much occupational Spanish as he could and volunteered to help the less fortunate receive eye care. His externships took him to Miami, Los Angeles, and Edmonton to learn more about ocular disease, refractive and cataract surgery, and private practice. With a focus on dry eye, Dr. Bharadia continues to research developing treatments and therapies.
Dr. Bishop & Associates gives Dr. Bharadia a chance to practice a full scope of optometry while working in a community-based clinic. He appreciates being a primary care provider and an entry point to the healthcare system. Comprehensive eye exams allow eye doctors to assess both visual function and ocular health, which can reveal signs and symptoms that may be related to overall systemic health.
Dr. Bharadia is one half of a set of twins! He enjoys cooking, travelling, and spends his summer days on the golf course as often as possible.
Dr. Ah-Seng earned her Bachelor of Science from the University of Calgary in 2010 before heading to the University of Waterloo for her Doctor of Optometry in 2014. Her clinical rotations took her to the Maroubra Optometrists in Sydney, Australia, Eye Associates of Pinellas in Pinellas Park, Florida, and at Iris in Calgary and Cochrane, Alberta.
The thing she loves most about her job is the people and the variety Every day is so different from the last and she gets to interact with all the amazing patients that come into the office. She appreciates the teamwork and support she gets from her fellow doctors and all the staff at Dr. Bishop & Associates.
A little-known fact about Dr. Ah-Seng is that she has a background in performing arts. In fact, she spent 18 years dancing ballet and has proudly accomplished her grade 10 Royal Conservatory of Music certificate in classical piano. In her free time, she rock climbs as much as she can and has a collection of scented candles that’s growing at an alarming rate.
Dr. Nguyen joined the Dr. Bishop & Associates team in 2017 and loves all the support she gets from the staff and doctors. She values the chance to work at an established clinic because of the wide variety of patients that come in. Not only does she know them on a one-on-one basis, she knows their family through many generations.
She earned her bachelor of Biological Science at the University of Calgary and her Doctorate of Optometry at NOVA Southeastern University in Florida. Her internship at NSU Eye Institute gave her more experience in primary eye care, contact lens fitting, and ocular disease management. She volunteered her time with Special Olympics Opening Eyes, an organization that provides vision screening for young special needs athletes.
When she’s not helping patients in the office Dr. Nguyen could be anywhere! She loves to travel and plans to visit every province in Canada, every state in the US, and Europe.
